The collaboration between Natron Hayat and BTG has recently achieved a new milestone with the successful implementation of a cooking control project. This project has successfully achieved its goal to reduce Kappa variability by 50% and maintain controls running at 92% of the time. The installation of BTG instruments to measure blow line consistency and kappa, implementation of advanced process control and remote support for maintaining control performance and reliability not only ensured successful implementation of the project, but also sustained beneficial performance over time.
Due to the challenging circumstances brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was conducted mainly through remote means, demonstrating the high level of expertise and cooperation between Natron’s Pulping Team and BTG’s Control Implementation Team. This accomplishment further solidifies their shared commitment to efficient pulp and paper manufacturing.
“Using the new BTG advanced process control in our cooking has provided Natron Hayat with a new level of stability and efficiency in running our continuous digester. This higher stability and new way to operate the digester paves the way for our strategic direction of improving the quality of one of our main grades in PM 4” says Mirko Stanic, Director of Technology at Natron Hayat.
“The close collaboration between Natron and BTG, with regular communication including local language support, daily reports, and weekly meetings, was key to the execution of the project. We look forward to building on this collaboration and working with the Natron teams to achieve further economic benefits through process optimization, both in pulping and on the paper machines – from chip to reel” says Roland Berger, Head of Pulp & Paper EMEA at BTG.
